Wild West API

Connect Msty Studio to an uncensored OpenAI-compatible API

Msty Studio is a chat app with a desktop version and a browser version called Studio Web. Use the desktop app for the Wild West API: Studio Web runs in your browser, which cannot reach the API until it supports CORS.

Works from the desktop or a self-hosted copy. The hosted web version calls the API from your browser tab, which the API does not allow yet.

Set it up

  1. Sign in at wildwestapi.com/signup/ with the six-digit code sent to your email, open the dashboard and create an API key. It starts with sk-ww- and is shown in full once, so copy it somewhere safe.
  2. Install and open Msty Studio Desktop.
  3. Go to Model Hub, then Model Providers, and select Add Provider.
  4. Choose the OpenAI-compatible option.
  5. Enter https://wildwestapi.com/v1 as the API endpoint and paste your sk-ww- key.
  6. Fetch the models, or add outlaw-1 by hand if the list stays empty, then save.
  7. Open a new conversation and pick outlaw-1.

Does it work with the Wild West API?

Msty Studio Desktop: expected to work, since it is an installed app rather than a browser tab. If it reports a network or CORS error anyway, Msty's settings include an optional web security override under App Info for CORS troubleshooting.

Msty Studio Web: not today. Msty's docs say Studio Web stores its data in your browser and connects to remote providers from there, so the request comes from the page. The Wild West API does not answer the CORS preflight a browser sends first, so the request is blocked. Use the desktop app, or SillyTavern, which makes the call from its own server.

The settings that matter for long roleplay

  • Set a context limit you are comfortable paying for. All models here accept at least 512K tokens of context window, but every message resends the history.
  • Set max output tokens so long replies do not stop mid scene; see max tokens.
  • Keep streaming on.
  • Use a persona or system prompt for character rules; see system prompt.

Which model id to use

outlaw-1 is the house pick and the cheapest for long sessions. glm-5.3-outlaw writes the strongest prose and is text only. Others are listed on the models page.

Troubleshooting Msty

  • 401: the key is missing, mistyped or disabled. Paste it again with no trailing space and check it starts with sk-ww-. A key from another provider will never work here.
  • 402: your balance is too low for the request. Top up in the dashboard; see pricing. A huge context on every turn burns credit faster than you might expect.
  • 404 or 400 with an unknown model: the model id is wrong. Use an exact id from the model list, such as outlaw-1, with no provider prefix and no spaces.
  • 429: you are rate limited. Wait a few seconds and send again, and turn off any auto-retry loop that fires instantly.
  • 5xx: trouble upstream. Retry; if it keeps happening, switch to another model id for a while.
  • Network error, "Failed to fetch" or a CORS message: you are almost certainly on Studio Web. Switch to Msty Studio Desktop. On desktop, try the web security override in Settings, App Info.

FAQ

Will Msty Studio Web ever work with this API?

It will once the API answers CORS preflight requests. Until then, use the desktop app.

Does connecting Studio Web to Msty Sidecar help?

Sidecar is built to give Studio Web access to local models and tools. Whether it can relay a remote provider was not confirmed, so the desktop app is the reliable option.

Do I need the /v1 on the end of the URL?

Yes. Use https://wildwestapi.com/v1 so the app finds /v1/models and /v1/chat/completions.
