Wild West API

Set it up in your app.

Step by step for the chat apps people use with an OpenAI-compatible API, with the real field names. Where an app cannot connect yet, the page says so and why.

AgnaisticAgnaistic, also called Agnai, is a character chat app that runs on agnai.chat or self-hosted. Its Third-Party service can talk to any OpenAI-compatible API, and by default the Agnai server sends the request, so the Wild West API works. AnythingLLMAnythingLLM is a desktop and Docker app for chatting with documents and models. Its Generic OpenAI provider accepts any OpenAI-compatible API, and its built-in server makes the call, so the Wild West API works. Big-AGIBig-AGI is an open-source chat app you can use at big-agi.com or self-host. Its OpenAI service accepts a custom API Endpoint and, by default, sends requests through the Big-AGI server, so the Wild West API works. ChatboxChatbox is a chat client for Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile and the web. On desktop it reaches any API directly; on the web version you turn on one switch so requests go through Chatbox's proxy. Cherry StudioCherry Studio is an open-source desktop chat client for Windows, macOS and Linux. Custom providers of type OpenAI work with any compatible API, and the desktop app is not subject to browser CORS rules, so the Wild West API works. JanJan is an open-source desktop chat app known for local models, and it also accepts remote providers. It sends provider requests through its native layer rather than a browser tab, so the Wild West API works. KoboldAI LiteKoboldAI Lite is a single-page writing and chat client, hosted at lite.koboldai.net and bundled with KoboldCpp. It runs entirely in your browser, so on its own it cannot reach the Wild West API, but its built-in Use CORS Proxy option gets around that. LibreChatLibreChat is a self-hosted chat app with a Node backend, and it adds third-party providers through custom endpoints in librechat.yaml. Because the server makes the API calls, the Wild West API works with it today. LobeChatLobeChat, now part of LobeHub, is an open-source chat app you can self-host or run as a desktop app. Custom providers are sent through its server by default, so the Wild West API works as long as you leave client request mode off. Open WebUIOpen WebUI is a self-hosted chat interface with its own backend, so it can call the Wild West API server-side with no browser restrictions. You add it once as an OpenAI connection in the admin settings. RisuAIRisuAI is a character chat app with a web version, desktop builds and a self-hosted server. Its Custom API model accepts any OpenAI-compatible URL, and the web version sends requests through RisuAI's own proxy, so the Wild West API works on all of them. BetterChatGPTBetterChatGPT and its maintained fork BetterChatGPT-PLUS let you set a custom API endpoint, but every request is made from the page, including in the desktop builds. The Wild West API does not answer CORS preflight today, so BetterChatGPT cannot use it yet. Janitor AIJanitor AI lets you plug in an OpenAI-compatible proxy, but the request is made by your browser on janitorai.com. The Wild West API does not answer CORS preflight today, so a Janitor AI proxy pointed at it ends in a network error. MstyMsty Studio is a chat app with a desktop version and a browser version called Studio Web. Use the desktop app for the Wild West API: Studio Web runs in your browser, which cannot reach the API until it supports CORS. NextChatNextChat, formerly ChatGPT-Next-Web, is an open-source chat UI with a web version, desktop apps and a one-click self-host. Its desktop app and a self-hosted server can reach the Wild West API; the public web page with a custom endpoint cannot yet. TypingMindTypingMind lets you add custom OpenAI-compatible models, but it sends those requests straight from your browser. The Wild West API does not answer CORS preflight today, so a TypingMind custom model pointing at it fails with a network error.
