Use Cline in VS Code with an uncensored LLM API
Cline is an autonomous coding agent for VS Code. It has a provider type called OpenAI Compatible, which is made for servers like this one. Everything is set in the settings panel, so there is no file to edit.
Set it up
- Sign in at wildwestapi.com/signup/ with the six-digit code sent to your email, open the dashboard and create an API key. It starts with sk-ww- and is shown in full once, so copy it somewhere safe.
- Open Cline and click the settings cog in its panel.
- Set API Provider to OpenAI Compatible.
- Set Base URL to https://wildwestapi.com/v1. It must not be the api.openai.com address.
- Paste your sk-ww- key into API Key and type outlaw-1 as the Model ID.
- Open Model Configuration and set the context window, max output and image support, then run a small task to check.
Model Configuration
The Model Configuration section holds the fields that matter for a model Cline does not know. The docs list max output tokens, context window size, image support, computer use and input and output prices.
- Context window. Most Wild West models have 1M tokens and the qwen one 512K. Enter a number at or below the real one. A very large value invites Cline to stuff in whole files, which costs more.
- Max output. Set a sensible cap so a runaway reply does not burn credit.
- Image support. Turn it on for models with vision. glm-5.3-outlaw has no vision, so leave it off for that id.
- Prices. These are only for Cline's own cost counter. Enter the figures from pricing if you want it to be close.
How an agent behaves with a gateway
Cline runs a loop: it plans, reads files, edits, runs commands and checks the result, and each step is another request carrying the growing conversation. Tool calling support in the model matters for that loop. Start with outlaw-1 on a small, low risk task and watch how it behaves before you let it run on a big repo. Use Cline's approval prompts for commands until you trust it.
One limit to know
An agent that re-sends context each step can use a lot of tokens in a short time. With pay-as-you-go billing that is a real bill, and no subscription caps it. Create a key with a spend limit in the dashboard if you let Cline run unattended.

What if Verify fails?
Check the Base URL ends in /v1 with no trailing path, the key has no spaces, and the model id is exact. A 401 means the key is wrong; a 404 usually means the model id is.
Does Cline work with other uncensored ids?
Yes, type any id from the models page. Remember to adjust image support and context window per model.
